Here’s one more way to make a cultural difference: get out of your car. Ciclovía, an event that started in Bogotá, Columbia in 1976 and since has spread worldwide, closes a city’s streets to automobile traffic for a day.
The next event takes place on April 15 in Los Angeles, where organizers call it CicLAvia. To experience the city in the quiet, rushing midst of 100,000 bicycles is thrilling and triumphant. You don’t have to register, join or sign up. Just show up; here’s the route.
I hope I’ll see you there!
