Take the Savoy King to the NY Film Fest

Chick Webb, drummer, band leader, and Swing music stylist extraordinaire, overcame formidable odds to become the king of Harlem’s Savoy Ballroom. Filmmaker Jeff Kaufman tells his heroic tale in The Savoy King: Chick Webb and the Music That Changed America, which has just won a prized place in the New York Film Festival.
Jeff’s a brilliant committed filmmaker who has produced 10 docs for Amnesty International (and he’s a loyal Cultural Weekly reader). The Savoy King is another compelling work in his oeuvre. To give the film a strong launch, Jeff has started a crowdfunding campaign for promotional and marketing efforts. The project needs to raise $5,000 by September 11, 2012.
Enjoy the short video below, then go to The Savoy King’s indiegogo page, and send this movie to the Big Apple with some swingin’ Cultural Weekly style.
