If you’re new to the world of online slots, it can seem a little intimidating. But don’t worry – we’ve prepared this step by step slot machine guide to playing online slots; so, drink it in!

Step 1: Get to Know Basic Slot Terminology

Before, you start playing, it’s a good idea to acquaint yourself with basic slot terminology. All slots contain symbols (illustrations on the reels) arranged on spinning wheels called reels and when you press the spin button, these reels start to move. Once the reels stop moving, you’re left with a combination of symbols on the payline(s) (the lines where payouts are awarded). Of course, you need to know a lot more than the three words in bold in this paragraph, so study the other words in bold in this guide and if you wish to learn a few more, consult a slot dictionary.

Step 2: Do your Homework on a Slot

In addition, you should read up about the particular slot you wish to play as one slot can be very different from the next. Thus, study a slot’s symbols, reels, paylines, jackpots (maximum payouts), bonus rounds (mini games within the game), RTP (the return to player percentage) and minimum and maximum betting stakes (the lowest and highest amount of money you can bet per spin). Plus, find out as much as you can about the slot developer (the slot creator). If you choose a slot from one of the major developers, such as NetEnt, Playtech, and Microgaming, you’re in safe hands.

And a good rule of thumb is to only play slots from a reputable developer that’s generous when it comes to paylines, jackpots, RTP (95% plus) and bonus games.

Step 3: Choose a Good Online Casino

Next, you need to find a reliable online casino. Although there are tons of them, there are also plenty of bad ones, so you need to be careful. Thankfully, though, the UK Gambling Commission regulates the market these days. Thus, make sure that you only play slots at casinos with a license issued by this organisation. Some of the major betting companies have slots online, but there are many other trustworthy online casinos, too.

Step 4: Play a Few Demo Games to Warm Up

Even after you’ve breezed through the first three steps, it’s probably not a good idea to start playing slots for cash until you’re used to them. Therefore, play a few free demo games to warm up.

Step 5: Set Limits Before You Play

Don’t forget to set losing and winning limits before you start playing for real money as you need to know when to walk away. Here’s a useful tip: always quit playing after spending your budget or doubling it.

Final Thoughts

We hope that you’ve enjoyed our guide to playing online slots. And after you’ve completed the tasks in all five steps, you’ll be more than ready to play. So, what are you waiting for?
