Fares (Yousef) Abdelhalim: “Wicked”

Wicked

I heard you say, “I don’t have a racist bone in my body,”

And I believe you

Except racism is not stored in the bones

It matriculates in the heart

Flows through the blood

Then corrodes the mind

Eventually spewing its way out of the mouth

Manifesting itself into the form of hatred

That energy is then used to reinvigorate

The wicked hearts

The wicked hearts of those who share those same core beliefs

Like the monsters that killed Breonna Taylor

The wicked heart like the cop’s wife that called me

A terrorist when I was 10 years old

The cycle continues

Racism is still alive
