Ellen LaFleche's book about her husband's death from ALS, Walking into Lightning, was published by Saddle Road Press. The book challenges current ideas about grief and celebrates/mourns the sensual losses of widowhood, a topic that many books about grief seems to shy away from. She has received the Ruth Stone Poetry Prize, the Tor House Poetry Prize, and the Philbrick Poetry Prize, among others. Her chapbooks include: Beatrice (Tiger Eye Press), Workers' Rites (Providence Athenaeum) and Ovarian (Dallas Poets Community Press.) She is an assistant judge of the North Street Book Prize.
