Angel Banuelos: “My Blood”

My Blood

My blood
it goes to any and everything
I feel I need to keep alive
To my mother
My siblings
To the friends who became family
through loyalty and love
to the brothers and sisters of this world
to come together in peace
and love to love
to peace
to equality
to waking up every morning
to making the king’s dream come true
to give us the strength to rise-

My blood
it goes to everyone who needs
A chance
A hug
My blood goes-
to anyone whose heart hurts
and is screaming out
and the only thing that can save them
is my blood

About the author

Angel Banuelos

Angel Banuelos

I write poetry because it's therapeutic for me to be able to write without barriers. I grew up in Watts so being emotional wasn't really an option, until I found spoken word. I aspire to become a forensic psychologist or prison psychiatrist so I know there's at least one person working in Criminal Justice for more than just the money. I hope that whoever my poetry reaches, that it simply lets you know that you aren't alone. I will be attending Cal State Monterey Bay beginning in the Fall of 2020.
